The money and behind-the-scenes labor required to put a first-class band on the field is provided by the Band Booster Club. The club pays for music, transportation, uniforms, band-owned instruments, show props, salaries for assistants, maintenance, entry fees, awards, and literary everything else.
The Booster Club raises most of the funds to meet the band's annual budget, which is usually just over $60,000 per year. The club operates two concession stands at home football games.
The Booster Club holds an annual fruit sale in the fall, and also conducts other fund raisers throughout the year. Special fund raisers are held whenever extra funds are needed, such as for the band's trip to Washington for the 2002 National Independence Day Parade and new uniforms purchased in 2005.
The Booster Club also does most of the behind-the-scenes tasks necessary to make the band work, such as:
Prop construction Making flags for the color guard
Moving pit equipment
Transporting equipment to away games and contests
Cleaning and maintaining uniforms
Midland Valley hosts a marching band contest each year.
In September we hold the Mustang Classic, our own contest for bands of all classifications. The booster club provides the labor and organization for this event, which annually bring over twenty bands to Midland Valley. |
