2001-2002 School Year

Marching Band

Barnwell Music in Motion - October 13, 2001

Midland Valley swept the awards for 3A, and no, we weren't the only band in the division.  The Pride of the Valley took home awards for:

  • First Place Band
  • Best Drum Major - Adrienne Kemp
  • Best Percussion
  • Best Drum Line
  • Best Horn Line
  • Best Band Front

In addition to the 3A awards, the Pride also picked up the spirit award, and Blake Allen carried home the soloist award.

In overall scoring, Midland Valley and Silver Bluff tied for second place.  Both finished one point behind event grand champion and defending state champion Swansea High School.

Midland Valley earned a "Superior" rating for the second week in a row

Lower State - October 20, 2001

Midland Valley finished second in the Lower State competition, held at Midland Valley.  The Mustangs were less than one point from first place.

State Finals - October 27, 2001

Midland Valley finished in eighth place in the state AAA finals held at Newberry High School.

Concert Festival

Midland Valley's Symphonic Band and Concert Band both received Superior ratings at the 2002 concert festival.  We were the only 3A school in South Carolina to earn Superior ratings with two bands.

Midland Valley musicians earned 20 superior ratings, clinching the Outstanding Performance Award!
